The Johannesburg Health District (JHD) is working tirelessly to combat the spread of listeriosis and to reduce patient morbidity and mortality owing to the outbreak of this disease.
On Friday, January 12, health promoters, press control operators, business licensing officers and environmental health practitioners embarked on a health blitz around Signet Terrace.
Shoppers were educated on listeriosis, the killer bacterial disease that claimed the lives of over 200 people in South Africa recently, with 18 deaths being reported in Johannesburg. Soweto and Orange farm areas appeared to have more cases of this disease.
Ongoing health promotion activities and awareness campaigns are taking place in various public places such as hospitals, clinics, taxi ranks, shopping centres and malls.
